Andrew Hewson

Ornamentals (Hardy Nursery Stock, bedding & pot plants).

Andrew is a well-known industry figure and experienced ADAS advisor who has worked closely with commercial growers, government departments and various horticultural bodies. These include Defra, the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) and the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), through which he has led several high profile knowledge-transfer projects, notably on Environmental Best Practice, Integrated Crop Management, Supply-chain Management, and Plant Propagation Best Practice.

He has also led many study-days / grower workshops and authored or co-authored several industry / AHDB publications, which include: Herbaceous perennial production, Cold Storage Best Practice, Plant Propagation and Spray Application Best Practice (DVD). Covering ornamentals and specialising in Hardy Nursery Stock (HNS), he has a particular interest in propagation, liner production and container-growing.

Prior to joining ADAS, Andrew worked in central London for the Royal Parks and then Hampshire based nurserymen Hillier Nurseries, having studied at Writtle College. He has also been a regular columnist for Horticulture Week magazine and is a past recipient of the prestigious IPPS Mary Helliar Travel Scholarship, through which he undertook an extensive nursery stock study-tour in North America. Passionate about plants, his leisure interests include gardening, reading, art, music, sport and travel.
