IPDM Study Visit to Pembrokeshire Chilli Farm

Join Tyfu Cymru’s Edible IPDM network for a Study Visit to Pembrokeshire Chilli Farm.

Based in the heart of the Pembrokeshire countryside, Pembrokeshire Chilli Farm has built a reputation for producing a wide range of quality chilli sauces, jams and spices grown from their own Welsh Chillies.

Owen and Michelle who own and manage Pembrokeshire Chilli Farm will share how they use IPDM to control P&D pressures within their crop to ensure high quality produce. Although the visit will focus on IPDM, Owen and Michelle will also share their journey into becoming an award-winning horticulture business. Pembrokeshire Chilli Farm produces a wide range of chillies, offer 20 different products, and have over 8,000 square feet of polytunnels.

Through the IPDM programme in 2021 Owen and Michelle received technical advice and support, helping them move forward with the use of biocontrols to reduce pest pressures. Notably, they achieved great successes in controlling aphids and spider mites within their crop.

We will then visit Nick and Pat Beans' Springfields Farm in Manorbier, where we will see asparagus, cherries, blueberries and strawberries all under an IPDM programme. In 2021 Nick and Pat took part in Farming Connects Integrated Pest Management EIP project.

We will also be joined by ADAS consultants Chris Creed and Elysia Bartel who have a wealth of knowledge on the use of biocontrol’s and will share tips on which predators to introduce and when for prevention and control of key pests within crops. They will also cover the IPM compatibility of key fungicides, bioprotectants and insecticides with biological controls.
