The last two years has seen significant challenges for the professional and commercial sectors in the UK in supply of growing medium. There have been challenges with peat free alternative supplies, include lack of consistency of the product, increased feeding and watering, cost and carbon footprint.

For those of you who are already growing entirely peat free, congratulations and we hope that this brings further positive opportunities for your business. However, for those who are keen to move to peat free growing but who are experiencing challenges we would encourage you to complete this consultation. The outcome of this consultation could potentially affect any garden centre/ florist/ nursery who is selling on European imports.

Although working towards peat free production is an important step, the commercial horticulture industry in Wales is looking at a holistic approach to sustainability and achieving net Zero by 2050.
