The session will re-cap on the basic genetics of seed production, including what is meant by “true to type” and the importance of population size in relation to the selection of inbreeding and outbreeding vegetables. We will look at roguing and selection of inbreeders, outbreeders and biennials, sharing the methods we use to decide whether what we are looking at is correct or atypical for a given variety. We will apply these to three scenarios, looking at carrot, runner bean and lettuce.
