The Tyfu Cymru Christmas Tree Network is delighted to be hosting a study visit to Gower Fresh Christmas Trees. Gower Fresh Christmas trees is home to the now fifth generation Morgan Family and is run by Robert Morgan. Gower fresh Christmas trees, was once a typical farm with 500 breeding sheep and 200 cattle, due to the foot and mouth outbreak and poor returns in the livestock market, Robert saw an opportunity for quality, sensible priced Christmas Trees. Their first trees were planted in 1997. They are now one of Wales largest Christmas tree growers and their hard work and dedication has led to them winning awards such as the British Christmas Tree Grower Association Grower of the year 2017.

Janet Allen from ADAS will lead the visit and topics for discussion will be:

• Preparing for Christmas tree harvest
• Autumn/early winter herbicide use
• Scouting for presence of and autumn pest control
• Identifying disease problems
• Preparing for planting in winter 2021 & late winter/early spring 2022
• Is integrated pest & disease control an option for Christmas trees?
• Soil & needle analysis timing & methods of sampling for the most reliable results

This study visit is funded by Tyfu Cymru, and Lunch will be provided, but please provide your own transport.
