The nominees have been announced for the Tyfu Cymru Training Award, part of the Lantra Land-based Learner awards 2022. 

The top horticulture businesses in Wales for outstanding commitment to Continuous Professional Development by engaging with the Tyfu Cymru project have been listed as follows:

Tyfu Cymru is able to provide 100% funded support to eligible horticulture businesses in Wales through the provision of 1:1 support, access to networks, study tours, group training and other means of aiding the development of industrial knowledge, skills and processes.

The winner and runner up of this award will be announced at the Lantra Cymru Awards Ceremony on Thursday 19th January 2023.

Ali's Edibles | Llanmaes, Vale of Glamorgan

Ali's Edibles is a market garden in the village of Llanmaes, Vale of Glamorgan. By popular demand they supply fresh, nearly organic, local vegetables to supply local people, harvesting twice a week and delivering produce to the customer's doors.

Through engaging in the 100% funded training opportunities provided by Tyfu Cymru, Ali's edibles has proved commitment to ongoing professional development, securing them a nomination for the Tyfu Cymru Training Award.

Boverton Nurseries Ltd is a long established family business that specialise in Spring/Summer bedding plants that are grown specifically to the requirements for local authorities.

Four Crosses Nursery are growers of hardy nursery stock for wholesale supply. They have the capability and capacity to produce large quantities of competitively priced plants.

Henbant is a family and community farm based near Caernarfon where they use a range of practical methods such as permaculture, holistic management and agro-ecological growing techniques to grow regenerative food and fuel.

Puffin Produce | Haverfordwest Pembrokeshire

Puffin Produce is the largest supplier of Welsh produce in Wales, supplying various seasonal vegetables and potatoes to many food retailers and wholesalers.

The commitment shown by Puffin Produce to engage in the 100% funded opportunities that Tyfu Cymru provides is reflected in their nomination for the Tyfu Cymru Training Award. Providing their staff with ongoing horticulture training and continuing professional development.

Springfields Fresh Produce (Manorbier) Ltd | Manorbier, Pembrokeshire

Springfields, is run by Nick and Pat Bean where for many years they have been growing top quality strawberries, daffodils and asparagus in Pembrokeshire. They sell to customers through their farm shop in Manorbier. From August onwards, Springfields’ daffodil bulbs are on sale: giving their customers a wide choice of numerous varieties.

Nick and Pat Bean have been able to utilise the 100% funded support offered by Tyfu Cymru in many ways in order to enhance their continuous professional development and evolve their enterprises accordingly, which has secured them a nomination for the Tyfu Cymru Training Award.
